WSFR Policy, including the attached guidance documents, are developed using a collaborative process that allows input from grant recipients, stakeholders, and others with expertise and experience. Where applicable, the guidance is reviewed by the Joint Federal/State Task Force on Federal Assistance Policy for their consideration and consensus.
In April 2021 the DOI Office of the Executive Secretariat and Regulatory Affairs (OES) met and determined to continue the practice of maintaining public-facing access to what is defined as significant guidance under the prior E.O.s.

The amendments allow for more flexibility and administrative advantages for projects that acquire land for, expand, or construct public target ranges. The guidance is INTERIM and will be rescinded when the regulations at 50 CFR 80 are updated to reflect the amendments. |
| Guidance for Wildlife Action Plan Review and Revisions | Dec. 5, 2017 | Tells States the process and requirements for updating and submitting State Wildlife Action Plans (SWAPs). Congress, through appropriation laws, requires States that wish to receive funding under the State Wildlife Grant Program (SWG) to have approved SWAPs. The guidance was developed between the Service and the Association of State Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA). Supersedes guidance issued July 12, 2007. |

Transmits a determination for eligibility of projects to stock pen-raised birds under the Hunter Education provisions of the Wildlife Restoration Act and gives requirements for such projects. |
| Recovering Equipment Costs on a WSFR Grant | Oct. 21, 2016 | Expands upon the requirements at 2 CFR 200 to give States directives on allowable approaches, eligible equipment costs, and options for determining rates. This guidance was prompted by audit findings showing improper application of grant funds. |
| WSFR Guidance on Third-party Contracts for Personnel Services | Jan. 28, 2016 | Tells States how they may consider contracting with a third-party for personnel services and the acceptable and unacceptable approaches. Based on guidance at 2 CFR 200. This guidance was prompted by an internal review that showed in-kind match associated with personnel services being improperly applied to a grant proposal. |
