Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) are a subset of nature-based solutions and include actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore habitats while simultaneously storing carbon or avoiding greenhouse gas emissions. There is growing interest in the application of NCS on lands purchased or managed with Office of Conservation Investment-administered financial assistance. There is also significant potential for these activities to generate revenue. The guidance below clarifies how existing policy and regulation related to use of and income from lands with a Federal financial assistance nexus apply to natural climate solutions and carbon-related activities.
