Jul 20, 2015Encourage...not require. The symbol means absolutely nothing to the public. Sign procurement, installation, maintenance and monitoring is a costly endeavor with little or no return on the investment. There are more effective methods to promote program accomplishments.

Jul 22, 2015Encourage...NOT REQUIRE. Signage is vandalized and damaged many times. As long as there is an effort to promote the program accomplishments.

Jul 24, 2015We should continue to encourage, but not require the usage of signage at WSFR funded projects/sites. As stated by the above commenters, signs are costly, often vandalized, and may at times not be the most effective means by which to inform the public that the Programs provided funding. State FW agencies and the Service have done a great job of implementing the WSFR partnership for over 75 years. It my understanding that most, if not all, State FW agencies willingly and freely give the WSFR program credit and acknowledgement whenever possible. We should continue as outlined in 50 CFR 80.100.

Mar 01, 2016Does the same distinction between "encourage" and "require", with encourage the answer for signage, also apply to areas open to the public having provisions to inform the public of the location, boundaries, and any restrictions on use? Is this a requirement for WSFR-funded projects, or just something we encourage?
